Is there Mercury in my flu shot?

During the manufacturing process, ethyl mercury is used versus methyl mercury. Methyl mercury is poisonous to humans. The ethyl mercury is removed during the final manufacturing process and only a trace amount remains. The amount is much less than you would ingest naturally in consuming many types of fish such a canned tuna fish.

Flu shots are a very safe and effective means to protect yourself for the flu each and every year. Please make sure to protect yourself from the respiratory flu.

Most flu vaccines will be preservative free by the 2008-09 flu shot season.

Flu Shots: Should your company provide them?

Why do many companies provide the convenience of on-site flu shots?

Flu shots are the easiest way to promote employee health and wellness in the workplace. Convenience and cost are the two most important consideration when offering an on-site flu vaccination program to your employees.

The challenge is to get a higher percentage to participate. The typical participation rate ranges from 25% to 30% of the employee population assuming the company pays the cost for the flu shots. Participations rates are greatly affected by any type of employee cost-sharing.

Typical Flu Vaccination/Shot Participation Rates:

Employee Pay: 10% estimated average
Employer Subsidized: 15% to 20% estimated average
Employer Pay: 25% to 35% estimated average
